How to Achieve Military Victory
I am going to explain what conditions lead to your opponent resisting, and I will explain what conditions lead to your opponent surrendering to the point that you can achieve your military aims, and your will, and your goals.
An opponent such as a government, a group, an individual, resists you because you are trying to stop him from doing something, or are trying to get him to do something. So, he has a reason to try to want to stop you. Some examples are your opponent is attacking another ethnic group, or trying to conduct genocide against another ethnic group, or is invading another country, or is invading your country or is attacking your land, the possibilites are endless. So, you set out to try to stop your opponent from doing something, or you could try to get someone to do something he doesn't want to do giving them a reason to resist. An opponent resists you because he has a reason to resist you or to come after you. If you are not doing something that negatively affects your opponent, or that doesn't give him a reason or motivation to resist you, then he won't resist you.
How you get your opponent to stop resisting you is you have to break your opponents will, which is his motivation, reason, drive, determination, to try to stop you. He may be trying to stop you from achieving your goal, or aim, of stopping him from doing something ,or from achieving your aim of getting him to do something that he doesn't want to do. You also have to break your opponents ability, which is his resources, his physical ability, to resist you.
If you break your opponents will to resist you that means that he has lost the motivation and the drive and the determination because he feels defeated and has given up mentally, he may still have a reason for resisting but he won't because he has lost the inner drive to resist. So in that way he has lost the reason to resist because the reason isn't a strong enough motivator. A good example of this can be found in a sport situation for instance. If you are playing a sport and are getting beat and are exhausted and feeling down you may forfeit not because you lost the reason for playing which was to win, but because you feel that either you can't win, or that you are too tired to want to continue, so you have been beaten mentally. So in essence in the sport analogy you have lost the reason to win because the reason or the want to win isn't worth the act of continueing the game or the fight.
If you break your opponent ability to resist then that means you take away his resources and his physical ability so that even if he continues to resist his chances of success are diminished because you have an advantage in resources and equipment over your opponent which greatly increases your chances of achieving your aims and goals. If your opponent has the will to resist you but not the ability then he will not resist you, and if your opponent has the ability to resist you but not the will then he will not resist you.
Sometimes however, due to religious fervor or reasoning, or due to a deep hatred and anger and rage your opponent will have such a strong will to resist you that even though he doesn't really have the ability to resist you, and his chances of success are small, he will continue to resist you even though he really doesn't have the resources or the physical ability to do so. Though often times even if your opponent continues to resist you even if he doesn't have ability he will fail ,and you will succeed, because your strength and might due to your resources such as weapons, ammunition, food, water, clothing, boots, fuel, the ability to communicate over distances, will give you an incredible advantage over an opponent who doesn't have enough weapons or enough ammunition, who doesn't have enough food or water, or doesn't have adequate clothing to protect from the weather or the gasoline or the boots to be able to move large distances, or the ability to communicate over large distances. This is why your opponent losing the ability to resist will often times lead to your opponent losing the will to resist, because he no longer has the means, or the resources, or the physical ability to resist so he loses the will, the drive, the determination, the motivation to resist, and gives up. Once your opponent loses the will to resist then he has given up and will stop resisting you from achieving your goals. Then you have achieved victory because your opponent no longer has the will, the motivation, drive, determination, because he has given up mentally. You can get your opponent to lose the ability to resist and achieve victory but oftentimes its that loss of ability that leads to loss of will that leads to victory.
You have achieved victory once you have gotten your opponent to lose the will to resist, and can achieve your goals by getting your opponent to do what you want without him regaining the will, the reason, the motivation to resist, then you have achieved victory!
